Sandra Martin taught and developed curriculum in the Conewago Valley School District, PA since 1976. She is experienced in teaching students with reading and math needs. Her primary assignment focused on students in fifth through eighth grades; however, Mrs. Martin was involved with teaching students of all ages, K- Adult. She graduated from Bloomsburg University, PA with an undergraduate degree in special education and received a master's degree in learning disabilities from Shippensburg University, PA. Sandra continues to do consulting work, staff-development programs, research, and development of curriculum in the areas of reading and math. She was a 2004 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year Finalist and has been recognized by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, Metropolitan Who’s Who, and Marquis Who’s Who, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who in American Education. Mrs. Martin has developed her own reading-fluency and math programs and published five books, including Breaking the “Sound” Barrier to Fluent Reading, Levels 1, 2, and 3, and Mathopedia, Levels 1 and 2.
Sandra Martin welcomes comments about her books, Breaking the "Sound" Barrier to Fluent Reading, Levels 1, 2, and 3 and Mathopedia, Levels 1 and 2. Sandra is available to speak at conferences or staff-development programs on the proper acquisition of phonemic awareness, phonics, reading-fluency instruction, the spelling of words that accompany these reading skills, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and inclusion. Mrs. Martin also lectures about math skills that lead to long-term memory retention and higher test scores. She uses a part-to-whole method and asserts that students can easily retain math skills when they are taught sequentially using all learning modalities. Her expertise is with middle-school students, grades 5 – 8. Her reading and math programs, however, are being used in all grade levels with students in regular education and special education.
